Welcome to the 4th Grade!

Aloha parents and families,

Ms. Cubilo and Mr. Hayashi would like to welcome you and your child to the 2015-2016 school year! We hope you had a fun and restful summer. The expectations in 4th grade are high, but they are very similar to those that the students had in previous years. Some of the parent and family expectations include:

  • Checking the student planner daily to see homework assignments (there will not be any homework on Fridays)
  • Checking the homework folder for forms that need to be signed and returned
  • Calling the school or providing a note if students will be absent (note in the planner is fine as well)

For language arts with Ms. Cubilo, student expectations are:

  • 25 minutes of reading daily, except on weekends (if books are unavailable, students may read anything that contains text)
  • Completion of daily assignments (review of previous concepts)

For math with Mr. Hayashi, student expectations are:

  • Completion of daily assignments (review of previous concepts)
  • Show all work on worksheet or scratch paper
  • Practice multiplication facts as needed

All of these expectations are intended to develop skills for the 5th grade, as well as the Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium (SBAC). Students in the 4th grade will also be taking the Science Hawaii State Assessment (HSA), so it will be a busy year. However, we intend to prepare the students for these tests and will need your support throughout. We look forward to meeting and working with all of you. Let’s have a great year!

Sincerely,

Ms. Cublio & Mr. Hayashi
