Intramurals

Intramurals are a fun way for NES students to learn good sportsmanship. Grade 6 students are selected to participate in zone football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer activities playing other Nānākuli-Waiʻanae elementary schools. If there are not enough Grade 6 students to field a team, then Grade 5 students may be invited to participate. On very rare occasions, a Grade 4 student may also be asked to join Intramurals.

Each NES student will undergo two grade/behavior checks to ensure they are making adequate academic progress and that they are demonstrating the high standards of ethical behavior. The "Three Strikes Rule" is enforced for all Intramural participants, meaning that upon their third offense (of any of the following) the student is no longer able to participate.

Offenses include
  • being asked to leave a class by an adult
  • being referred to the office for any behavior incident
  • all Chapter 19 offenses
  • unexcused absence from practice
  • receiving a 1 or 2 on grade/behavior check
  • NOT taking care of school equipment or property
  • showing NO aloha to others

Locations of Intramural activities vary depending on the sport. They include Waiʻanae High School, Waiʻanae Intermediate School, and Nānākuli High & Intermediate School. There is no cost to participate in Intramurals, but participants are expected to attend practice according to the posted schedule, usually from 7:00 a.m. to 7:45 a.m.
